After his success with #FillUpTheDome, Cassper Nyovest decided to reach for bigger and higher frontiers. He achieved that, with the help of some of his friends, when he sold 40 ooo tickets for his show this past Saturday, 29 October 2016. A colleague of mine had won tickets and invited me with. I know a few of his songs and followed his career through the media but I’ve never attended any of his shows so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
We arrived after 6 because we first attended the Sexpo, not far away from the stadium. Getting through security was quite easy, so was finding seats for all 5 of us to sit together, have to commend them on that. Khuli Chana was one of the artists out there to support Cassper and had everyone on their feet when he hit the stage. Some of the other artists that came out to show their support was Nadia Nakai, who looked absolutely amazing, Nasty C who had the crowd (erm young girls) screaming, Wizkid, who performed his hit, Ojuelegba, Emtee who had the crowd on their feet with hits like Pearl Thusi and Roll Up, Doc Shebeleza, his mentor showed us that he still got all the right moves and of course, the highlight for so many people, Babes Wodumo and Cassper performing their new song and ending off with Wololo and her signature moves, breaking it down alongside Cassper.
Boity Thulo‘s presence was a pleasant surprise and set the tongues wagging about a possible reconciliation with Cassper when he called her out on stage to dedicate a song to her. Somizi was his usual amazing self while showing off his twerking skills in a sparkling track suit. Cassper’s entrance was highly anticipated but I didn’t know his opening song or a few other songs he performed. He got really emotional when performing a song dedicated to his grandma who died last year and I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt the pain with him. Security was quite relaxed as we saw a few people just jumping on stage, only to be chased by security guards afterwards. One guy jumped on stage during Nasty C’s performance, bumping into everyone before being chased of stage. Two other guys joined Cassper on stage and continued following him even as he moved away from them before being removed by security. The scariest for me was when Boity was on stage during Cassper’s dedication to her and a fan walked onto stage very calmly, hugged her and then got off the stage again, can’t possibly imagine what was ging through her mind at the time.
Cassper has worked really hard over the past few years and this event was another feather in his hat. Young and old were there to support him and it’s a clear indication that he’s loved by many. Personally, this was not the most fun I’ve had at an event thus far but it wasn’t the worst event I’ve attended either. For die-hard Cassper fans this was definitely a treat, one of them were seated behind us and he knew every lyric to every song Cassper performed and if that isn’t a Day 1, die-hard fan, I don’t know what is.
